GFHS Tips for demolishing brickwalls

On Saturday 13th September GFHS held a members helping members workshop on demolishing brickwalls. Many strategies and tips were shared relating to:
– Name variations
– Spelling variations
– Anglicised names and foreign names
– Skeletons in the family
– Creating and using an ancestor timeline
– Searching collateral lines
– New indexes and databases (including using social media)
– Online resources
– Where to find free e-resources
– Sharing and advertising your brickwall

Members learnt that brickwalls can be demolished by following the golden rules of genealogy, thinking laterally, persevering, checking new resources, sharing, by luck and most importantly never giving up.
