Founding member – Jess Lowrie making history as she celebrates her 90th

It was with great pride that Jess celebrated her 90th birthday on the 21st February and followed with a big birthday bash on the 22nd.  With family and many old school friends, friends and members of the various organisations she has belonged to along that period of time.

We  must thank Jess, as a founding member of the Geraldton Family History Society, for her enthusiasm throughout the years. Her love of history has been spread over to many, many members who have passed through meetings held along that time.  The local knowledge she has on the Geraldton and the Midwest is still vivid in Jess’ memory and the stories keep coming.

Many happy returns Jess

They look great and operate very fast with programs being loaded onto them at present.

With new programs it is a great time to see the latest operating systems, check out new ways of doing things and what you can improve on  right now.

Geraldton Family History Soc. Inc. gain Lotterywest Grant for Computers

Committee members worked hard to putting together there heads as to how they could improve the GFHS library  for members and its useage and one of these areas were  that the computers in the room were old and causing lengthy waits.  So a grant was applied for from  Lotterywest towards the end of 2013 and it is with great delight that over the Christmas period we  received news that it had been approved.  The computers are now ordered and we are awaiting there arrival with baited breath and look forward to showing them off to everyone once inplace in the Society room at the Residency.

The Geraldton Family History Society, thanks everyone for the support and  a big thanks to  the team at Lotterywest for their assistance in applying for the grant and we look forward to seeing the computers in our rooms shortly.
