Congratulations MIDWEST ANCESTRY on 100th issue in June 2011. Special thanks are extended to contributors over the years and to those members who gave their time and skills to producing our publication.
According to the history compiled by inaugural and Life Member, Jessie Lowrie, the ‘newsletter’ was the brainchild of Jenny MacKay and commenced as a one sheet monthly in 1990. No Editor is formally named during the early years and the number of issues varied from 8 to 10 per year and with contributions from members and others were typed and distributed by Jenny.
In August 1992 Ken Stewart was named as Editor and set up the basic format and formal numbering system starting with issue No 29
(previous sheets having been allocated a no.)and in 1993 the GFHS Newsletter became a quarterly publication. Mitchell & Brown and local Politicians sponsored printing and an ISSN no was allocated.
Ken Stewart was editor for Issues 29 to 41 and in 1994 the newsletter was jointly edited by Ian Drake and John Mellors (issues 42 to45). Two issues 46/47 were edited by Ken Stewart in 1995 and then Brian Kings took over in Sept for two years to Sept1997 (issues48 to56). Issue 56 was the first to be named MIDWEST ANCESTRY.
